Thanks for sharing. Learned something new. From the comments, looks like there are applications where dry pour is oaky, where there are no heavy loads. As for me, I think I will stick with wet pour. Thank you again for educating us.

Really great information. Thanks for the video. For me it’s a no brainer considering making the concrete wet adds minimal time to the overall project. Might use dry for fence posts, not much else

Iv mixed a lot of concrete in wheel barrels and i found the best consistency happend with 3 bags and 3/4 of a 5 gallon bucket you can smack it and leave a hand print and nothing splashes back concrete lays down good and smoothes nicely

This is great if you don't do many compound miters, which I do, yes you can make three different inserts, but it's not very effective to keep switching them out, I made one used it for a week and then it went on the burn pile

I guess when you mix concrete with watter, you get ride of most air bubles, and when you poor it, the liquid mixture apply a strong pressure that expulse all air bubles. Wheras with dry concrete, there is no mix and no pressure, so the concreete keeps all small air trapped inside and dries like a microscopic sponge...

Even at 2000 PSI it's pretty strong in compression at a design value of 400 PSI and it's about the same strength as wood

  • @guruofendtimes819

That is not 8 lb of pressure it is either 800 or 8,000. Show the exact pressure when the first crack starts I would say it would be at 1 ton.

A dry will never hydrate or distribute the aggregate properly so I would say it would have 1/10 the strength of poured concrete

What gives concrete its compressive strength is the aggregate. Dry and wet pour have the same aggregate. What isn't the same is the cement paste that binds the aggregate. Cement requires water in the right ratio to make a paste that binds the aggregate. The wet paste grows crystals that link together. Too much water and the paste becomes weak, to little water and the paste never forms. Dry pour never gives the cement the opportunity to see the correct water-to-cement ratio to create crystal growth in the paste. Watering it from the top "may" allow the top half inch or so to get the right ratio, but as the concrete on the top cures, it prevents the cement below from seeing much if any of the water that is now trapped on the top. The thicker the dry pour, the less chance it will ever see any crystal growth. Dry pour is a waste of time and resources, and if you're relying on it for structural integrity, say for footings, it may result in structural failure and injury. Follow the manufacturer instructions on all concrete DIY products. BTW: What gives concrete tensile strength is steel reinforcement, placed on chairs at the right depth in the pour. Not "pulled up" from the bottom. BTW #2: Fiber, either steel or fiberglass does NOT give concrete structures any structurally significant tensile strength. All it does is help to reduce concrete cracking during curing. IMO, fiber is a crutch, when what should be used to prevent surface or structural cracking is: 1) proper compaction of the sub-base to 98%, 2) steel reinforcement mesh or bar held up to the correct depth with plastic chairs, 3) vibrators used to ensure complete contact of the concrete with the reinforcement and reduction of voids, 4) control joints properly designed and installed, 5) constant wetting of the concrete surface for 7 days as soon as surface water disappears, or immediately if the concrete is exposed to sunlight; alternatively a surface sealer to keep the water in the slab and next to the surface to prevent dry out before crystal growth can finish.

Thank you for this video... The should definitively show anyone who's dry pouring that it's waste of time and material... ...But Apparently it didn't. Reading the comments there's still people saying "You need to mist it more often... You misted it too much... You shoulda..." Shut da Fuk Up! Listen: Do you want good solid concrete?... Or do you want crumbly-ass garbage? How long does it take and how hard is it to mix a little concrete before you pour it? You are all trying to save yourselves an hour now that is going to cost you a day or days later on.

Dang that sucks whomever should of dried in that roof knowing that there was a finished basement and a garage under it that would be damaged if water came in. I own a commercial roofing company and I would of killed my guys if they didn't dry that roof in every night. I felt absolutely horrible for you seeing all that damage. I'm not sure where your located but if you were one of my neighbors I would of sent you a dozen guys to help clean up and we would of done your roof at no cost so you would of had the money to cover the unexpected damage. That's just what neighbors do for each other.
